Moving Box Removal & Post-Move Cleanout in the Denver Metro

November 2, 2026 2 min read

You're in the new place in Arvada, Lakewood or Highlands Ranch, and now the garage is a wall of flattened cardboard, packing paper, and furniture that didn't fit. We're Troops Junk Removal, a veteran-owned company in Arvada. Here's how to clear the after-move mess, whether you do it yourself or call us.

Option 1: Recycle the boxes yourself

Break boxes down flat and check your city's or hauler's recycling rules before you set them out.

Option 2: Pass them on

Gently used boxes are gold for the next person who's moving.

  • Post them on Buy Nothing, Nextdoor, Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist free.
  • Use U-Haul's Box Exchange (uhaul.com/Exchange) or drop them at a participating Take-A-Box Leave-A-Box location (ask the store first).
  • Unused new boxes: U-Haul offers a buyback on unused boxes, and Home Depot accepts returns of unused boxes. Both require the receipt, so check the store's current policy.

Option 3: Have us haul it all

Boxes are rarely the only thing. Post-move cleanouts usually include:

  • Furniture that didn't fit
  • Old mattresses
  • Broken shelving, rugs, the junk left behind at the old place

We load it up and haul it away.

Left stuff behind at the old place?

Landlords and buyers expect it empty, so clear it before the final walk-through.

Quick post-move cleanout checklist

  • [ ] Flatten and bundle boxes
  • [ ] Set aside reusable boxes to give away
  • [ ] Return unused new boxes with the receipt
  • [ ] Pull out furniture and junk you're not keeping
  • [ ] Book a pickup or schedule the city's bulk pickup
