What Is Household Hazardous Waste?
Household hazardous waste includes any product with a flammable, toxic, corrosive, or reactive warning label. Common examples are latex and oil-based paint, motor oil, antifreeze, propane cylinders, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, batteries, and fluorescent bulbs.
These materials cannot go in your curbside recycling bin or trash — and reputable junk removal companies (including us) are prohibited from hauling them. Rooney Road is a legal local option; its posted schedule lists a $30 co-pay for most eligible Jefferson County residential HHW up to 75 pounds, while some items such as paint are free within limits.

Rooney Road lists public hours on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Drop-offs are by appointment only. Check the provider's contact page and book before traveling.
The general residential co-pay is $30 for Jefferson County residents with proof of residency, covering up to 75 pounds for most items; the posted schedule lists $2.03 per pound after that. Item exceptions and free-material limits apply, so check the current provider schedule before booking.
